Charles Ives - The Unanswered Question - Leonard Bernstein

Performed by the NY Philharmonic and Leonard Bernstein.  Charles Ives was probably the best classical composer ever to come out of America.  The Unanswered Question is a study in consonance and dissonance, tonality and atonality, some passages are startlingly beautiful, before giving way to a cacophany of instruments fighting for dominance over one another - a tremendously difficult momentum to sustain, and to perform... Great introduction to atonal music.
Also features a piece by Elliot Carter - Ives's protege - called 'Central Park in the Dark'.

Black Ox Orkestar - Ver Tanzt?

the only Yiddish folk music I think I've ever heard..
From Constellation records [remember them??], one of their newer releases.  If you know Constellation, you'll know this music is darker than hell.

Cylob - Mood Bells

Reviews @ Amazon.com for this album are funny.  Some angry customers, expecting some
more mainstream electronic fare and were instead treated to this!  Very peaceful and minimal... using treated bells as a primary instrument, the album sways from melodic trickles, to atonal constructions of metallic sound that invoke the tones of a gamelan.

Konntinent - All Lines Lead In

|||
"'All lines lead in' is a wholly remarkable EP, particularly striking is Konntinent's ability to weave a story into his music - the EP conveys a very definite feeling of beginning, middle and end, visiting upon eerie and unsettling amalgams of strings and field recordings, to incredibly delicate melodies picked out on guitar. The tracks build out of static and lost radio frequencies into shimmering, hazy pieces of blissful music, hanging in the air like some delicate mist before disappearing on the next wave of hum and white noise... For repeated listens..."
