Charles Ives - The Unanswered Question - Leonard Bernstein

Performed by the NY Philharmonic and Leonard Bernstein. Charles Ives was probably the best classical composer ever to come out of America. The Unanswered Question is a study in consonance and dissonance, tonality and atonality, some passages are startlingly beautiful, before giving way to a cacophany of instruments fighting for dominance over one another - a tremendously difficult momentum to sustain, and to perform... Great introduction to atonal music.
Also features a piece by Elliot Carter - Ives's protege - called 'Central Park in the Dark'.
